Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or all of the teeth. The goal of teeth replacement is to restore function as well as aesthetics.
The dental implant acts as a replacement for the root of a missing tooth and holds a replacement tooth or bridge. Having a dental implant fused to the jawbone is the closest thing to mimicking a natural tooth because it stands on its own without affecting the nearby teeth and has great stability. Most dental implants are made of titanium, which allows them to integrate with bone without being recognized as a foreign object in our body. Therefore, considering the quality of the titanium placed in your bone, we provide Biohorizons implants.
The procedure for placing dental implants
The process of placing dental implants is generally completed in three visits to our office.
1. During the first visit, the patient’s mouth and jaw will be examined visually and via digital X – ray to determine whether the patient is a good candidate for dental implants.
2. During the second visit, the patient will be made comfortable with local anesthesia and his or her gums and jaw will be prepared to receive the implants. Our spec. oral surgeon and implantologist uses laser technology to perform the surgery and insert the implant. After the implantation, the patient will return home to allow the healing process to begin and the implants to become fused to the jawbone. This process generally takes from three to six months.
3. On the third visit for placing dental implants, the patient will be fitted with custom-crafted, natural-looking porcelain replacement teeth. At the completion of this final visit, the patient will have beautiful and durable replacement teeth.
Dental implants require no more care than normal teeth do and with proper care patients can enjoy strong and stunning smiles for a lifetime.
